The land has now been purchased for the allotments together with an access strip and land for a car park. The fencing and other infrastructure work is underway and it should not be long before the area is ready for those wishing to grow their own fruit and vegetables. The Council are most encouraged as around 50 residents of the parish have indicated a wish to rent their own allotments and meetings to discuss this have been well attended. The potential allotment holders have now formed an interim steering committee and under consideration is association rules and terms of reference. Whilst the council wish the group to be as self regulatory as possible the council will still retain overall strategic control. The Council is committed to the green agenda and welcomes such a surge of interest.
The allotment area is almost completed - only the water to be brought in; that will happen in the very near future. The Parish Council have set the prices and size of the allotments:-
800 sq ft - £30 per annum
1200 sq ft - £35 per annum
There will be a flat rate fee for a maximum of 12 months if taken on the 1st October (or pro rata if taken after the 1st October) to end on the 30th September 2010 of £10 irrespective of size as recognition of the work to bring the area into production. Water charges will still apply.
