Coronation of King Charles III

Saturday May 6 2023

At the meeting of St Cleer parish council due to be held on Wednesday January 25 2023, there will be an initial planning and budget allocation discussion in relation to the coronation of King Charles III which is programmed to occur on Saturday May 6 2023.

The ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside his wife Camilla, The Queen Consort.

The coronation is both a religious ceremony and an act of tradition that cements the new monarch's role as head of the Church of England and marks the transfer of titles and powers to them.

The ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, London and it will be conducted in part by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Whilst the coronation will be effected on Saturday May 6, an additional bank holiday across the UK has been agreed for Monday, May 8.

May's extra bank holiday is in addition to the May Day bank holiday on Monday May 1 and the Spring bank holiday Monday May 29.

St Cleer parish council, in conjunction with other community organisations and institutions, is keen to support community celebrations which will suitably mark this historic event.

The initial discussion and planning of celebratory events is open to all and anyone with suggestions or proposals is very much encouraged to either attend the PC meeting Wednesday January 25 2023 at 19:00 in the Sports pavilion at Hockins House or to use any other means to communicate their ideas to the parish council.

Updates and information will be published as the plans form into a deliverable package.
